Last night I added a new page to my website; ‘Cool Stuff’ is no longer “Coming soon…”! I have added a Digg widget to the page which displays the last 5 items that I have ‘dugg’ on digg.com. I’ve been a fan of Digg for a few years now, there always seems to be something interesting on there that catches my eye, and if I find something elsewhere on the web that I think is cool, Digg is a great place to post it and share it with others.
I think the Digg widget is a superb way to implement what is essentially a ‘Links’ page on my website. It makes posting new links very easy; I just ‘digg’ an existing item on Digg, or post something to digg myself that I find whilst surfing the net. It then automatically appears on the ‘Cool Stuff’ page of my web site.
One down side with this method is that the widget is configured to display only the most recent items I have dugg (currently set to 5) which means that, unlike a permanent (hard coded) list of hyperlinks, older items will drop of the bottom off the list and disappear as new items are posted. A small price to pay for a very easy to use, constantly updating list of cool stuff to share with friends, family and random surfers who may visit my site!
